I feel terrible … I have fallen so far behind in my posting! Yikes!! Most of this is probably because I had my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago and I have been on the mend (slowly but surely), I have also been trying to get a bunch of freelance work finished and sent off, so that has taken up a bit of time as well. But, while I am here today I might as well make a lil’ outfit post ;).  For Memorial Day Mr. Ian and I both had the fortune to have the day off from work! So what better idea then to go pay a visit to Jenny and Jon!? It was a nice and easy drive down, and we got to catch up a bunch. We got to organize the prints/clothing that are now for sale on our shop, discuss some upcoming blog posts and illustrations, and MOST IMPORTANTLY … eat food and drink beer!  Continue reading

stress-eating

Hello Everyone!

As you all know I lost my horse recently. I have been doing my best to swing back into being myself and getting things done in my daily life, but it has really taken a toll on me. I feel as though it would be hard for anyone in this sort of situation to keep on going as if everything is normal. I wanted to write more about it because it has definitely affected one thing in particular…my eating.

Vermont Header

A few weeks ago I visited Burlington, Vermont for my brother Trevor’s Graduation from College! He attended the University of Vermont and (as far as I know) is going to be teaching Crossfit classes and competing in Crossfit competitions for a living. It was nice to be able to see him and his lovely girlfriend, and I had never been to Burlington before then, so it was an added bonus of adventure!

My favorite part of the weekend was when we all met up (my Mother, Step Daddy, Trevor, his girlfriend Jules and myself) and walked around the Burlington Farmer’s Market. I already love farmer’s markets, and Trevor had told me that this one was especially nice.

Hey guys! I feel as though everyone knows this by now – but if you don’t, here it is… I love Professional Wrestling.  Like…really love it. I love it so much that I drunkenly stated (with GREAT emotion, on my birthday) to Mr. Ian “…I really  love wrestling!” as CM Punk was having a match on Smack Down. My first real experience with watching WWE was when Mr. Ian was getting back into it. He watched a little more regularly in the 80’s and 90’s but fell out of it as the talent got muddled and confused (around 2000). No one really stuck out for him and the writing wasn’t at it’s strongest. He had been telling me all about the matches he was watching with our good friend Billy (who should be credited for me getting into wrestling in the first place – if it wasn’t for him, this never would have happened!) and asked if I would watch an episode of Monday Night RAW with him. I wasn’t too keen on it but there was really no harm in trying something new. As we turned on the TV CM Punk came down the ramp and walked into the ring to give the WWE Universe and Paul Heyman a piece of his mind (no – it was NOT the infamous pipe bomb … if you go to the link skip ahead to about the 1:40 mark) … and I was in. He didn’t even do anything that extravagant – just started talking. That was really and honestly all it took. I think I had these pre-conceived notions that pro-wrestling would be like other sports that I had been exposed to … boring. When I saw that it was *actually* more complex than that, I became obsessed! My best way of describing it to people who ask is this: Wrestling is the best live-action-comic-book-soap opera I have ever seen. And I mean all of those things in the best way possible!       With all of that being said, I went to my first “Pay-Per-View” on March 4th – Extreme Rules!!!

“Tres Extremos” From left to right: Me, Mr. Ian and Billy

I went with Mr. Ian and Billy, and once parked in the parking lot outside the IZOD Center we met up with our friends Rich and Ryan where we drank beer and took in everything around us and GOT HYPED for what was in store. Sorry guys…this is about to get very picture heavy!

First off – yes, I definitely missed last week’s Tea Time Tuesday!! Shame on me! Moving on though, this week’s review is about one of the new teas that Rook Coffee Roasters has to offer, just in time for summer!

I just want to start off by talking about Rook as a company. They are based in Monmouth County, NJ with shops set up in Oakhurst, Long Branch and Little Silver. The company was started by two childhood friends (Holly Migliaccio and Shawn Kingsley) who have a passion for specialty coffee. The brews that they make in shop range from fair trade, organic and water processed (a chemical-free way of decaffeinating their coffee).

I usually frequent the one in the Little Silver Train Station as it is on the way to dropping Mr. Ian off at work. The location for it is great, and the staff are really wonderful people! They always make you feel welcome when you walk in the door, and if you are not used to their different roasts they will happily explain them to you.

I decided to try the Berry Tea this week, I have had the Black Tea that they offer and it wasn’t really what I expected. It was just more of a regular “Iced Tea” than an “English Breakfast” blend.

The Berry tea was extremely refreshing! It wasn’t too sweet, and not very bitter. Just perfectly tart after you finish taking a sip. The flavor tastes like there are a few different berries in the blend – raspberry being the most notable (to me anyway…I can’t say for sure what’s in it). I would definitely recommend it on a hot day if you are not feeling like grabbing coffee, but need a little pick-me-up.

This post is coming out a tad bit late – but better late than never…eh?

On the weekend of April 25th a bunch of my friends and I took a weekend-long trip down to Rehoboth, Delaware to visit the Dogfish Head Brewery! Dogfish Head is actually in Milton, Delaware…but the house we rented was in Rehoboth. It was a weekend-long birthday celebration for my friend Keith (seen below), he’s an old man now.

 It was a great time!

It’s Tuesday! Do you know what that means? … no? Well hold onto your butts boys and girls, because I am here to kick off a new segment that I would like to call Tea Time Tuesdays. It’s quite exciting!

I would consider myself relatively new to the “tea scene”, I still only have a few types that I stick to for the most part. Luckily for me (and for all of you lovely readers out there) the world is filled with different types of tea. Or even just different ways to drink each type of tea. That is what I am going to look into in each of these blog posts. Each entry could range from a different type of tea each week, exploring different tea flavors within the same brand, or different ways to prepare and enjoy certain types of tea.

Without further ado, let me introduce –

frapfar

– the Green Tea Frappuccino from Starbucks!

Hello fellow readers! It’s me Alexa, your Cool-Goth-Friend! I know that Jenny already made her post a few weeks ago about our big outing, but I just never got to it until today.

Like Jenny mentioned previously, she came up to visit me so we could get some work done on the blog and take cute pics of our outfits over at Deep Cut Gardens. My boyfriend, known as Mr. Ian, brought me here when we first started dating and I fell in love with the place. It has a beautiful green house with various different species growing inside, and the grounds are well maintained and look spectacular in the spring and summer time.

Bubba and Blaze

Bubba and Blaze

Hello again. I posted here once last week and planned on putting up a tea review and then a fashion post, but this last week has been one of the hardest times of my life.

Bubba and me - thanks Mom!

Bubba and me – thanks Mom!

I have been around horses for almost as long as I can remember. Not many people get to say that, and I consider myself lucky every day. The first two that impacted my life in a big way were Blaze and her best buddy Bubba. Bubba passed away three years ago, and it was hard for me back then because I had already been removed from her for a while. I was finishing up my junior year at SVA in the city when my mother told me we had to put her down. I remember being so upset, and very worried about Blaze. The two of them couldn’t stand to be separated for any length of time. You would have to take both of them out to the field from the barn together for them to be calm…what was Blaze supposed to do without her other half? Mom said she reacted as, I think, almost any animal would. Confused, then understanding.

On April 16th, Blaze left this world, and left a hole in my heart.

Alexa HEARTS Punk

Oh hi there! I would just like to take this time to introduce myself. My name’s Alexa, and I’m the other half of “One Raw Bite”. To put it plainly – I’m the artistic and slightly less healthy half (not necessarily because I don’t WANT to be).

Jenny and I have known each other since I was a freshman in high school (she was a senior). In the short period of time that we went to school together we made a strong bond with each other. Every time we saw each other we listened to music (specifically JPop or KPop related), watched movies (also of the Asian variety) and, you guessed it…ate delicious food! We were much less healthy back then…but hey, that’s what being 16 and 18 years old is for, right?! We also quickly realized that we both have a love of fashion (our tastes have become somewhat refined over the past few years), so really we’re just a match made in heaven.
