Things have been so busy that I couldn’t write the Month Eleven post. Heck I didn’t even have time to write the Month Twelve post! This kiddo is over 13 months old at the point. All I can say is thank god there are no more of those stickers left. I carefully saved all the stickers when he was little, but quickly it became obvious that he rips them off and makes them all crinkley. There is no month 12 photo because we took the photo, and when I tried to transfer the images from the camera to the computer I realized I didn’t have the memory card in the camera. By that point I was done with those photos. He just squirms around too much. Next time, I probably won’t do the whole laying on their back thing.

FOOD: We are pretty much living off of solid foods. I keep being told he eats a lot- but does he? I think it might be an illusion? People are surprised when I say he eats a whole banana for breakfast, an oat cake, and milk from nursing) but it makes sense because it ends up being 260 calories (minus the breast milk). Some sources say toddlers need 900 calories a day- and if he eats that much every meal, that comes to 780 calories, leaving 220 calories for snacks. Okay maybe it is a lot because I am still nursing. Whatever. He seems healthy.

DEVELOPMENT: Last time I posted Wolfie was walking but couldn’t get to a standing position by himself. He was able to do this month 11, and now is running with confidence. Recently I saw my cousin who is 9 months old, and it was funny seeing him crawl and how “floppy” he still looked. I don’t remember Wolfie looking this way when he crawled, but he probably did.

PLAY: Suddenly Wolfie is getting how to “play” with his toys. There are so many toys that would have an actual goal but he would just take them and suck on them or clang it together with something else. Now he seems to try and actually interact with the toys. He goes over to his toys and makes them play music so he can jam out (even if the tunes are weak.) He is starting to mirror things I do. Like I was playing with his new barn toy putting the animals into their stalls. He then started to grab anything he could and shove the animals in the stalls. Nice try but I don’t think the horse, chicken, and 2 pigs can fit in one spot.

GROWTH: So we went for his 12 month visit and Wolfie is now big enough that he stands on the scale! Whoo! And he now keeps his clothes on- meaning he is now getting big enough that ounces don’t make that much of a difference. So he weighed at 22 lbs 14oz (getting close to 23!) in the 75th percentile. His height keeps going up at 2ft 7inches in the 89th percentile. But his head is super tiny- 22nd percentile.

TALKING: We got Mama and Dada down. And I think he is saying more, but it is hard to understand when you intuitively know what your kid is trying to say (combined with his inability to properly say the word.) But we have had some glimmer of talking. Somedays I can see him try hard to say words, and some days out of the blue he will say a word, then never again. For example one morning he said “brown bear” and handed me the Brown Bear Brown Bear book. Jon thought I was crazy until Wolfie said it again. We haven’t heard him say it ever since. My Mom claims she heard him muttering it to himself the other day…

SOCIALIZING: Now that Wolfie is interacting with other people more, it makes him seem like a “real kid.” I am guessing that he will be very outgoing since he never really seems to be going through a “mommy phase.” I think there was one week where he didn’t want to be left alone with anyone else (poor Justine got stuck with a screaming babe for 2 hours SORRY!) but aside from that he is doing well. He was very interested in everyone at my family get together for Christmas, and wanted almost nothing to do with me during his birthday.

He is now also playing with other kids. I’ve been taking him to the library since they have a big interactive kids section. If possible I try and take him to story time, which pretty much means kids play afterwards. It makes me nervous, I have kind-of no problem letting him play and learn his own boundaries, but then I feel like I am doing a bad job. Plus, I can already see that Wolfie is fairly assertive, and I am more afraid of him pushing someone down or pulling a stranger’s hair.

SLEEP: I didn’t really think there would be much else to say but his naps are FINALLY coming into place. Oddly I think it is because of consistency. We finished up our share at our CSA so the morning nap didn’t get disrupted. And my Mother got knee surgery done so she hasn’t been able to watch him. As a result I was able to get a schedule going for him. It has been the best. There has been ups and downs with the naps, and there was one day he woke up at 5 (what the heck!?) but he has been pretty awesome. I am constantly watching out for when he is growing out the morning nap, but that isn’t happening anytime soon.

birthday2015

I have un officially decided I should make a wish list for my birthday every year on here. I think every year I want more abstract things in my life over materialistic ones. Like I just want to go for a long hike, a BIG layered cake, eat out with my hubby, a house to move into, and a say of a really long nap with my snuggle buddy.

But my friends and family can’t gift me a nap. Sadly. So people give each other material things. So if I have to choose some actual things to get, these would be it. Some are bordering the line of stuff I like and stuff I NEED. I am truthfully a horrible person when it comes to buying things I need.

1. Princess Knight Vol 2. & Creepy Comic Collections

I’m a hard person to pin down with comics. I liked reading mangas but I never connected with the “manga” crowd since I loved scary mangas, or ones with different styles like Paradise Kiss. But as time went on, I expanded to American comics, but mostly from the indie scene. I just can’t be normal huh? So I picked up Creepy during my bachlorette party with Alexa. It was recommended since I dug some horror comics. I love it since they are stories by various artists, different drawing styles, and different types of story telling.

Princess Knight I got for Christmas, and finished up reading it. The story was written by the manga master Osamu Tezuka. It is an interesting read since I’ve read most of his adult mangas, so picking up Princess Knight was a completely different point of view.

2. Who Could Be Saddle Shoes?

I still need shoes guys. Some of my shoes are starting to tear, and I am trying hard to hold out longer and longer till I buy my home, and start budgeting money for myself again… or until I can ask someone else to buy them for me.  But these look super cute, vegan, and comfortable.

3. Vegan Knee High Socks

So I recently posted about Wharton State Park, and gave a warning about ticks. Well, I need some knee high socks to help protect myself from ticks. So why not say I’m vegan in the process?

4. Puppycat Mug

I actually hate mugs. Or rather I hate how many cool mug options there are, because I don’t need them all. In fact we have so many mugs that it drives me nuts how much space is wasted on them. But this one is pretty darn cute. I am sure there is a way I can do that to my mugs, so I can try that out.

5. Star Crossed Darling Brooch

There are so many cute pins and brooches on etsy. This guy randomly caught my attention. He would look super cute on some cardigans, dresses, or jackets.

6. New Bras

The bra depicted above isn’t what I’m actually looking for. I am trying to find some eco-friendly bras, which can be a tricky thing. Actually finding any fashion forward eco-friendly fair trade clothing can be tricky. I found a few cute ones from Faeries Dance.com, which may get an order from me in the near future.

7. Coyote Skull Zipper Pouch

I have a weird obsession with animals bones for a vegan. At least it is cool knowing the photographer never harms animals for the bones (she cleans them herself and usually finds or is gifted found bones). I don’t really need a pouch, but I love the photo on it, and truthfully, I always find uses for little pouches and bags.

What do you guys want for your birthdays? I betcha it is just a big old cake. I haven’t had one in such a long time!

05-22-14-0 05-22-14-1 05-22-14-2 Shirt: H&M | Skirt: YesStyle | Shoes: Bumper via Modcloth | Pin: Vintage

I am very happy to wear this outfit. This shirt and skirt are two of my favorite but least worn pieces in my wardrobe. I got the shirt from H&M thinking it would be something cute and different, but the sleeves made it hard to layer. So it stayed at the bottom of the dresser drawer. My skirt is really has straps making it into a jumper. Sadly, I got it from a Korea company so some of the proportions are a little off for me. The straps are fairly short so waistline will come all the way up to my boobs. Ack! But I found that the straps roll down and hide well.

Another cute thing- my broach. My Mother in Law gave me some money to go towards my camera (getting close $400!) but then gave me some pins that her mother had. This turtle looked so cool next to the burnt orange stripes. I got a few other things for my birthday including a cookbook from my friend Justine, Dad is Fat and some David Attenborough docs from my hubby.

We finished up watching the Madagascar documentary and I fell in love with Tenrecs. I can’t believe I haven’t heard about them until now. They are like little hedgehogs, only in a completely different family. They have the most amount of babies in one litter- up to 30 at a time! The oddest thing is how they can use their quills. It is so cool I have to just leave a video to watch from the series.

birthday1

My birthday is coming around the corner and I have been thinking about what I want. I know it seems weird (or maybe not?) thinking long and hard about what you want and what to tell people to get for you. Maybe it is because I try to ask for things I NEED. Seems simple enough, but considering I don’t go shopping often, I forget about what I need. Then I go to use it, realize I need it, then forget again. So anytime my birthday or christmas comes along I try REALLY hard to remember what I need.

So I put together a semi-lame birthday wishlist. I mean I can easily say that I want cute jewelry and lots of dresses because I always want that stuff. But this my list that is half “in my dreams” and half “so lame no one would get it for me.” See, I’m not getting ANY of this stuff for my birthday.

1 lip balm + lip stick
I’ve been reading a bunch smarty pants online memes about how people should get an award for using a whole tube of lipbalm. I do. In fact I am the last little bits of balm in 3 different tubes. Yikes! I have only one tube left. I also want to dabble in more lipsticks. I’ve heard great things about Lime Crime, vegan and quality wise. It is a little pricey, but I can always hope right?

2 tiny socks + small socks + tights
I think socks and tights are always on my wishlist- every year. I don’t know why everyone ignores it. I always get holes and runs in my stockings or I just simply loose half of the sock pair. Come on guise! Help me out! I even buy socks every time I buy a pair of shoes from DSW. I mean I haven’t been in over a year, which might be why I am extra desperate.

3 cardigans + sweaters
I’ve been complaining a lot on this blog about how cold I am at work. Or maybe I don’t and just delete that paragraph before publishing articles. But my bosses have been keeping the workspace fairly cool. I’ve been wearing the same three sweaters over and over again, and I need more. I also feel my cardigans getting a little ratty.

4 cookbooks isa does it + vegan eats world + rawsome vegan baking
I ALWAYS want more cookbooks. At this moment I would like these. I’ve been reading This Rawsome Vegan Life pretty often. Her writing style is great and her recipes look yummy. So I think Rawsome Vegan Baking would be a great dessert book to add. I also would love the most recent Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero. They never seem to fail me.

5 canon rebel t5i digital slr camera
Being a little too hopeful huh? Yup, I want a really nice SLR camera. I always wanted one and was thinking about getting an analog one in college. It never fleshed out since I know film itself is pricey. But this camera is for big plans for this site. Videos and super sexy food. My current camera is SOO old, that iphones usually take better photos. Yikes. I’ve been saving all my tip money in hopes of buying the camera, but I am still pretty far behind. I am inching towards $300 saved up.
