Dress: Urban Renewal | Necklace: Flair | Shoes: Nature Breeze

I haven’t done a fashion post in almost a month! So when my husband and I went into Philadelphia this weekend I knew I had to take a photo. Plus, the side streets are always great scenery! I was able to wear this dress my sister handed down to me. It is super soft and quick to put on. We went to go see Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki. It is one our favorite Miyazaki films. My husband says he can’t pick between Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro as his favorite, but I can easily say Spirited Away is my favorite.

I love how the main character is a female but the end of the story is not about how she fell in love. She saves her parents (spoiler alert her parents don’t get eaten… which is pretty obvious considering it is a kids movie) and helps many people around her. His visuals are amazing, and he uses animation in creative and beautiful ways.

I feel terrible … I have fallen so far behind in my posting! Yikes!! Most of this is probably because I had my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago and I have been on the mend (slowly but surely), I have also been trying to get a bunch of freelance work finished and sent off, so that has taken up a bit of time as well. But, while I am here today I might as well make a lil’ outfit post ;).  For Memorial Day Mr. Ian and I both had the fortune to have the day off from work! So what better idea then to go pay a visit to Jenny and Jon!? It was a nice and easy drive down, and we got to catch up a bunch. We got to organize the prints/clothing that are now for sale on our shop, discuss some upcoming blog posts and illustrations, and MOST IMPORTANTLY … eat food and drink beer!  Continue reading

Shirt: Esley | Tank: BLVD via Six on East | Pin: Vintage | Earrings: Nicole’s Threads | Shorts: C. luce | Shoes: Nature Breeze

This week has been a nightmare. I wanted to post this outfit awhile ago, but things were busy this week. My husband and I noticed some rattling in on the bottom of the car. Not only could you hear it, you could feel it. When we looked up potential problems online, we got two possibilities, one was totally benign, the other highly dangerous. So we had to borrow my sister’s car and I had to drive my husband to and from work. It was a huge pain since his work is about 40 minutes away. Regardless, the car is fixed and safe.

Anywho…. this outfit was from a week ago. Alexa and Mr. Ian came to visit me on Memorial Day. We played games, drank beer, and more importantly ate Korean food. I haven’t been able to figure out how to dress lately with the warmer weather. Or perhaps I am just getting older and starting to hate short-shorts. Who knows. This shirt and shorts were bought from Modcloth awhile ago during one of their blow-out sales. I love the bright color of the shorts and pearl collar from the shirt.

The butterfly pin is from my birthday gift from my Mom-in-Law. Alexa surprised me with some earrings and necklace from Nicole’s Threads. I really like this new fabric button trend. I plan on writing a small little review later this week,

I am very happy to wear this outfit. This shirt and skirt are two of my favorite but least worn pieces in my wardrobe. I got the shirt from H&M thinking it would be something cute and different, but the sleeves made it hard to layer. So it stayed at the bottom of the dresser drawer. My skirt is really has straps making it into a jumper. Sadly, I got it from a Korea company so some of the proportions are a little off for me. The straps are fairly short so waistline will come all the way up to my boobs. Ack! But I found that the straps roll down and hide well.

Another cute thing- my broach. My Mother in Law gave me some money to go towards my camera (getting close $400!) but then gave me some pins that her mother had. This turtle looked so cool next to the burnt orange stripes. I got a few other things for my birthday including a cookbook from my friend Justine, Dad is Fat and some David Attenborough docs from my hubby.

We finished up watching the Madagascar documentary and I fell in love with Tenrecs. I can’t believe I haven’t heard about them until now. They are like little hedgehogs, only in a completely different family. They have the most amount of babies in one litter- up to 30 at a time! The oddest thing is how they can use their quills. It is so cool I have to just leave a video to watch from the series.

I am so excited about today. It is the last day of work before my mini four day weekend. This Saturday it is my birthday, and Sunday is my first wedding anniversary. I will hopefully put together a small post about my wedding, because well, I LOVE sharing the photos from it. Yup. I’m bragging about it. I am also hoping to post something about our hiking day trips, with a packing guide.

And just as I get all excited about that, I realize that my CSA will be giving out their first share in two or three more weeks. I am hoping that it will give me a huge push for this site. I’ve been in a semi-culinary-rut. All the same food that has been sitting on a shelf. Now I will have a ticking time bomb of produce that I need to eat before it gets bad. I will be quite busy on this blog!

But back to my outfit. I am a little disappointed by how little is available for my outfit! The style of shoe by Chelsea Crew seems to still be available in different colors. The skirt was being sold through Modcloth for a long time, but now I can’t find it. And the business that made my necklace seems to close down. Ugg! Super bummer!

Ugg what a crazy week. I have to work 12 days in a row, some days can be 10 hours of work! Eek! But I am halfway done and by Friday I get a 4 day weekend celebrating my birthday and my first wedding anniversary. But now that the weather is warming up it is forcing me out of my comfort zone. Time to bid leggings goodbye and hello to skirts and short.

This dress was one of Modcloth’s Stylish Surprises. It isn’t a dress I would normally get on my own, as I have bad luck with jersey knit dresses. As Alexa mentioned before, they always pill. This one has held up, except one spot on the bottom. No seriously, it is like one butt cheek pilled, the rest is fine. I’ve actually worn this dress before, but I just put a warm fuzzy sweater over it.

I just wish it wasn’t so rainy out, the picture quality is pretty terrible. But I gotta work with what I get. There’s lots of fun new posts coming up, even though I am completely swamped. So keep coming back!

This post is coming out a tad bit late – but better late than never…eh?

On the weekend of April 25th a bunch of my friends and I took a weekend-long trip down to Rehoboth, Delaware to visit the Dogfish Head Brewery! Dogfish Head is actually in Milton, Delaware…but the house we rented was in Rehoboth. It was a weekend-long birthday celebration for my friend Keith (seen below), he’s an old man now.

 It was a great time!

My jobs seem to be less and less fashion friendly lately. I’ve been very busy over at my restaurant job, which entails wearing grease stained clothing. My framing job has been FREEZING! I am constantly just wearing pants and a cuddly sweater. Add on top of that my work has been keeping me really busy.

But I wanted to share two recent outfits with one of my favorite dresses. I got it from Modcloth about a year and half ago and it is very versatile. I usually wear it to work at the frame shop since it works so well with a cardigan and tights. But I recently found out that you can dress it up. I got this sequined jacket for a wedding, but the skirt I was going to pair it with did not fully mix. But it worked perfectly this dress. I was going to take a photo of the outfit at the wedding, but the lighting was very weird, and afterwards I had too much to drink to care.

Can I also point out how big my calves are? Holy crap right? I guess they are the results from running with five finger shoes. I love my body but it makes me a little sad about if I will be ever able to wear my skinny jeans again. They are so hard to squeeze over my calves, and if I size up it will be too big for the waist. Oh well.

Hello fellow readers! It’s me Alexa, your Cool-Goth-Friend! I know that Jenny already made her post a few weeks ago about our big outing, but I just never got to it until today.

Like Jenny mentioned previously, she came up to visit me so we could get some work done on the blog and take cute pics of our outfits over at Deep Cut Gardens. My boyfriend, known as Mr. Ian, brought me here when we first started dating and I fell in love with the place. It has a beautiful green house with various different species growing inside, and the grounds are well maintained and look spectacular in the spring and summer time.

I think my blog should be called “The girl who shops at Modcloth” because it is scary how much stuff I get there. Sometimes I make delusional memories of buying my clothing from Ruche, but I seriously only made one order from there. Eek. Truth is that I like the shoppers that Modcloth has, they have great quality for whatever price range.

This outfit was for Easter dinner. I wanted something that was comfy since my husband and I were driving all the way to Long Island to visit my Grandma. To put in perspective how annoying this is, you have to know New Jersey and New York culture. Long Island is next to Manhattan (what people think of when they say New York City), and is easy to see on a map of New York state. The island is where Brooklyn and Queens are located, but if you hear someone from New York or New Jersey refer to Long Island, they mean everything east of New York City on the island. Part of the distancing of New York City and the Long Island name is probably because Long Island is so freakin long. I mean it is the same length as Connecticut state. That means it takes a long time to and from the island. Commuting to New York City from Long Island could take just as long as some of the suburbs in New Jersey. And it is one of most densely populated islands in the world, making everything congested. Probably half the time I spent in the car was just trying to get through the island. Luckily she lives in Amityville, which is less than halfway in the island. And yes, it is the town in The Amityville Horror.

But if Long Island cultural perspective is boring to you, maybe cookies and cauliflower won’t be. I had a feeling no one would of made me a vegetarian dish, so made I made a side dish of roasted cauliflower, chickpeas, and olives. I remember making this recipe in the past so I figured I would give it a go. I also knew I should make these yummy carrot cake cookies.
