I didn’t make this up

During a routine Google search of the terms “Wolverine” and “Morgan”, Ariella discovered that there’s something called the Wolverine Morgan Horse Association. And get this: it’s recognized by the American Morgan Horse Association and Registry! If it weren’t located in Kalkaska, Michigan, I would be ALL OVER their trail rides and open-breed horse shows. Regardless, you can rest assured that Pop Effect will expand its current coverage to include the WMHA. (So for those of you keeping track, we’ll be writing about the following: Hugh Jackman, Wolverine, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Morgan, and The Wolverine Morgan Horse Association.)

People don’t tell me enough what a good person I am

While conversing with Jackie about what sort of costume one wears to a movie like Wolverine (ie, the movie I’ve been talking about for almost a year), I noted that Morgan should really be appreciative of the sacrifice I’m making by waiting until next Friday to see it, so that I can attend her birthday. The sacrifice, people. And just as I was about to blog about this (since no one but the Internet cares about my irrelevent rant), I had an epiphany—my blog’s tagline should really be, “Pop Effect: A blog about Wolverine, a baby named Morgan, and the ways in which they affect my life—and each others’.” I think I can safely say that I’ve effectively cornered the market in mutant hero/baby relations. And, apparently, there’s more to say about the subject than anyone might logically assume.

Twitter sounds like a dirty word: “Lindsay’s Twitter” is totally inappropriate, and it maybe offends me.

Ugh, guys. I went and joined Twitter. What was I thinking? I was so adamantly opposed, but PopPhoto.com set up an account to publicize the site (which is the home of American Photo and Popular Photography), so I joined to demonstrate my support for the cause. And two seconds later, I felt like a sellout. But truth be told, it’s an extremely useful tool for media outlets. And me not joining out of ideological spite is just as foolish as magazine editors who refuse to blog. So, my twitter will be work-related ish. I’m going to post links to highlights from the magazine in the hopes that I will trick people into visiting our site. It will also be mildly entertaining*, but of course work-appropriate because it’s under my actual name. You can check it out here.

*which of course means I’ll be dishing on my favorite shirtless mutant/actor/singer/dancer

The Oscars confirm what I already knew

For anyone who doesn’t understand why I love Hugh Jackman so much, please refer to the opening number of the 2009 Academy Awards. It is miraculous that the same guy who plays Wolverine can also do Kraftwerk-y electronica dance moves and look this adorable as a ‘lil baby. Also: remember when he was in Kate and Leopold?? The man has range. Maybe I just feel like I can relate to him because I didn’t see The Reader either. Whatever the reason, this post was just an excuse to publish a picture of Hugh Jackman with a baby’s body.

So F’N excited

I’ve decided to live blog the Oscars*. I want to keep thorough notes detailing when Hugh Jackman is awesome, as well as when he’s totally great. But since I’ll be away from my computer, I’ll just write blog posts on paper while I watch, then scan the pages. I figure it’s essentially the same thing. So after you watch the ceremony, come to POP effect for an analysis of Jackman’s presumably brilliant performance. If there is chest-baring or allusions to him being an Australian cowboy/mutant with knives between his knuckles, my posts will just be a series of exclammation points.

*Not really.

Fantastic. Splendid. Indeed.

I made a short film which depicts pretty much every conversation I have with Jackie lately. It is a tribute to friendship. (It may take a minute to load completely.)

Anyone who knows me at all is aware that my two favorite things in the world are Nikki Sixx and Comic Con. And guess what! I get to cover them both for American Photo magazine! (Nikki Sixx takes pixx in his non-Motley Crue time, and the unit photographer from The Watchmen movie is releasing a book of his set photos.)

In all seriousness now, I’m actually pretty excited for both of these. Having known little about Nikki Sixx before interviewing him (other than the fact that the Crue has an awesome Behind the Music), he turned out to be really dedicated to photography. So I like how that article has shaped up. And all I have to say about Comic Con is this: Wolverine. Will Hugh Jackman make an appearance? If so, I may fan girl all over the place.

What are you doing May 1st?

Wolverine: too many layers

The trailer for the upcoming Wolverine movie is circulating, and (lamentably) it appears that the titular character is frequently clothed. This displeases me for reasons stated in the previous post. So will Wolverine ever be shirtless, aside from the totally hot underwater torture scene??? OK, he apparently fights in a tank top a lot, but that’s so obvious. Mine and Jackie’s concept for a movie with the premise that Hugh Jackman does just normal things—”like play Soduku” (Normyle, Nov 2008)—but in a tank top, was overlooked. The world wants to see Wolverine at a Whole Foods in a skimpy wifebeater. This is not a difficult formula to figure out. It would be a cheaper movie too.

I promise I’m not making this blog about Wolverine. It is about Hugh Jackman though.

Dear Wolverine,

This is a totally acceptable thing for you to be doing right now, and I just want you to know that I approve of it.
